Discovery of the
history of south Germany
The WGAV is a voluntary association and recognized as a non-profit association. Founded in 1843, it is one of the oldest and, with around 1,200 members, one of the largest historical associations in Germany. With its wide range of offers and publications, it conveys and promotes the multifaceted history of Württemberg and the state capital Stuttgart. It addresses everyone who
• is interested in south-west German regional and local history
• want to discover the country’s art and culture
• searches for impulses for own research
• strive for a deeper understanding of homeland and landscape (Württemberg).

Requirements
“Württembergischer Geschichts- und Alterums Verein” ia a long existing association. Their website is already outdated and the information structure is overloaded.

Briefing from the client
»The more I looked at the website, the more I got the impression that simplification is good – i.e. not too many menu items, not too many sub-items, etc. All content should be available quickly without a long search. The navigation bar on the left seems very outdated to me.«

Challenge & Goal
Issue & Problem
- outdated webdesign
- too many sub-menus items
- users are overwhelmed
- it´s taking long to find the right content
- events and publications are listed as text and links and are confusing
- there are no categories but long pages of a lot of content without structure
Goal:
All content should be acessible quickly without a long search. Events and publications should be easily acessible. The navigation structure should be reduced on the main contents the user is looking for. Because of a wide range of content there should be differnt layers and overlays so that the user only gets the right information he needs at the right time.

Research
My research was mainly about the topic in general, the audience and user goals. Very important was the organization of the massive content of the old website. Therefore I build a information architecture and appropiate site map for the new website.

Webdesign &
Implementation
After organizing the structure and content of the website. I created different visual concepts for the webdeisgn. The first one won because of its easy user guidance. The design elements depict like a small discovery journey into the south German history. Parallax effects are used to get the user into the story and content.

The website structure is very dynamic and uses simple design elements. The reduced navigation helps the user easily to find the information he is looking for. Dynamic content models like events or publications are also easily adjustable for the clients. Different dynamic layers guide the user to fullfill his goals and to dig deeper into content.
Responsive Design
The Webdesign is also responsive and works on all devices. This is especially important for the users to be updated about new events and to register for them on their phone. Now it´s easy to find the right publications through filter options.

Dynamic Events
The events are completely dynamic and easily editable by the client in the CMS-System. The user gets a clearly update about new and old events and can even filter them by categories.
